Το Ινστιτούτο Ορθόδοξων Σπουδών του Κέϊμπριτζ ανακοινώνει
τη δεύτερη Ημερίδα Διαλόγου για το τρέχον έτος!
You are all warmly invited to our second
Conversation Day of the year which will take place on Saturday, 4 May from 11am
to 4pm, at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology (MBIT) in Cambridge (12
Grange Road, CB3 9DU). This Conversation Day will be organised jointly with our
friends from MBIT and the theme of the day is Christianity and Ecology under
the title 'A Temple Not Made By Hands: The Christian Vision of Creation and Its
Liturgical Roots'. The two featured speakers in conversation and their respective
talks will be:
Dr Margaret Barker - 'The Biblical
Vision for Creation'
Dr Elizabeth Theokritoff - 'A
Worshipping Cosmos: Liturgical Tradition and Ecological Implications'
Dr Margaret Barker is a well-known
author and scholar from the Methodist tradition. She studied theology at the
University of Cambridge, after which she has devoted her life to research in
ancient Christianity. She has developed an approach to biblical studies known
as Temple Theology. She was the president of the Society for Old Testament
Study, and authored numerous celebrated works, including: 'Creation: a Biblical
Vision for the Environment', 'The Older Testament: The Survival of Themes from
the Ancient Royal Cult in Sectarian Judaism and Early Christianity', 'The Lost
Prophet: The Book of Enoch and Its Influence on Christianity', 'The Gate of
Heaven: The History and Symbolism of the Temple in Jerusalem'.
Dr Elizabeth Theokritoff is a Senior
Research Associate at the Institute for Orthodox Christians Studies, Cambridge
for which she has frequently lectured since its inception. She has had a
particular interest in ‘theological ecology’ since 1988-9, when she served as
visiting Orthodox Tutor at the Ecumenical Institute, Bossey, Switzerland, for
the Graduate School on ‘Justice, peace and the integrity of creation’. Dr
Theokritoff is co-editor of the Cambridge Companion to Orthodox Christian
Theology and author of ‘Living in God’s Creation: Orthodox Perspectives on
Ecology’ (St Vladimir’s Seminary Press), as well as numerous articles and book
chapters on Orthodoxy and ecology and liturgical theology.
All are welcome to attend (no
participation fee).
Please note that the 4 May Conversation
Day will take place on a Saturday (not on a Friday like our other Conversation
Days this year) and that the location of the event is NOT Wesley House, as most
of our other events - but MBIT in Cambridge (address above).
The date of our next (third)
Conversation Day is Friday, 21 June 2019 (evening), when one of the guest
speakers will be the renowned British composer and academic, Revd Dr Ivan
Moody.
