Έπεσε αυτές τις μέρες στα χέρια μου το πιο πρόσφατο φυλλάδιο του Κέντρου Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Βασιλικού Κολεγίου Λονδίνου (φύλλο 19, Σεπτέμβριος 2008) και σ’ αυτό διάβασα μια συνέντευξη του σκηνοθέτη Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη, ο οποίος σκηνοθέτησε τη γνωστή ταινία «Ζορμπάς ο Έλληνας». Ο Κακογιάννης είπε μεταξύ άλλων και τα εξής:
«In 1963 I signed up to make Zorba, but only after I had secured the services of Anthony Quinn for the leading part; I would not have made the film otherwise! Alan Bates was so reticent and so gentle, so wise. And the two of them became really a precious pair. After Zorba I was approached with the rights of many novels that had been snapped up by major American producers. But I was never interested...» (p. 2).
