στο Shakespeare’s
Globe (21 New Globe Walk, Bankside, London SE1 9DT).
A radical reinvention of the classic tale of justice
and mercy.
Before setting out for the Trojan War, King
Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia. Many years later, when Agamemnon
returns to his palace, his adulterous Queen Clytemnestra takes her revenge by
brutally murdering him and installing her lover on the throne. How will the
gods judge Orestes, their estranged son, who must continue the endless cycle of
revenge by murdering his mother?
Perfectly suited to the outdoor arena of the Globe,
this innovative new adaptation is the original and ultimate tale of justice and
mercy.
Adele Thomas (The Knight of the Burning Pestle)
directs this thrilling three-act adaptation of the original epic trilogy, newly
adapted for the Globe by Rory Mullarkey (winner of the prestigious George
Devine Award for his play The Wolf from the Door at the Royal
Court).
‘The Globe is surely perfectly suited to this epic
discussion of justice and revenge’ (Financial Times).

‘The Oresteia is a huge, epic trilogy about
how we live together, so it’s brilliant to be doing it in a huge, epic theatre
right in the heart of a European capital city. Its stunning words present human
beings in all their grim and beautiful and messy contradictions, so it’s hugely
exciting to be staging it somewhere so public, where language feels so alive,
and where the audience’s relationship with the performers feels so immediate
and intimate’ – Rory Mullarkey, Playwright.
