The Peloponnese gave rise to more than legendary warriors. Ancient tradition places the ancestral roots of the Macedonian Argead dynasty in Argolis, while Arcadia is remembered in Roman legend as the homeland of Evander, who settled the future site of Rome before Aeneas arrived.
