A poetry film which describes the beautiful murmuration of starlings.
Murmuration
The eager starlings join their fellows’
swarm,
Add more slim bodies to the crowded swirl
That drops and dives, now shoots and soars, now falls
Again, now turns and twists, now changes form –
A spiral, now a sheet whose edges twirl
And fray, and now a wave that swells, then stalls.
The murmuring starlings follow no design
Or pattern, parting the air as they incline.
The peregrine takes fright before the
wing
Of the single giant bird the starlings make,
How mighty must they seem in such a cluster.
Collectively, the murmured starlings bring
A reckless beauty to the skies and take
A snatch of breath from me. Such startling muster!
