Ο Α΄ Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος

Οι Βρετανοί δείχνουν πάντα ένα ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον σε θέματα που σχετίζονται με τον Α΄ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο. Έτσι, η πρόσφατα εκδοθείσα συλλογή γραμματοσήμων είναι αφιερωμένη στο θέμα αυτό.

Όπως δημοσιεύθηκε στο διαδίκτυο: «World War 1 - dubbed The Great War - was a defining point in world history and this series will explore stories from the individuals who served as well as key art and poetry from the years. Stamps will be issued every year until 2018 inclusive, building into a unique series that will provide an insight into the war and the contribution and sacrifice of millions».

Ο εκπρόσωπος των Βασιλικών Ταχυδρομείων Stephen Agar σχολίασε: «The Great War changed the course of world history in ways which are still being felt today. This is why we took the decision to produce 30 stamps over a five year period. To commemorate all those who were involved is a major undertaking so we have consulted widely, including taking advice from the Imperial War Museums, senior figures within the Armed Services, and other organisations, including the Royal British Legion».
