Raising Multilingual Children

Το Ελληνικό Κολέγιο Αγίου Παντελεήμονος Harrow BΔ Λονδίνου ανακοινώνει τη διοργάνωση μιας πολύ ενδιαφέρουσας εκπαιδευτικής εκδήλωσης, με γενικό θέμα «Raising Multilingual Children». Η εκδήλωση θα λάβει χώρα στην Αίθουσα Εκδηλώσεων του Κολεγίου και της τοπικής Κοινότητας, το Σάββατο 30 Μαρτίου τ.έ., από τις 10.30 π.μ.

Η εκδήλωση οργανώνεται με την ενεργή συμμετοχή του Οργανισμού UCL BiLingo και της συνιδρύτριάς του Δρος Φρόσως Αργύρη, η οποία είναι μία απο τις κορυφαίες ερευνήτριες και επιστήμονες στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία, στον τομέα της διγλωσσίας και της πολυγλωσσίας.

Parents have many reasons for raising their children with multiple languages. Some hope for better career opportunities for their children, while others focus on the reported cognitive and intellectual benefits of learning an additional tongue, including better attention skills, improved memory, and a quicker decision-making process. But no matter what the motivation behind the parents' desire for giving their children a multilingual upbringing, their journey can be challenging and families often seek support. How can I manage to teach my child all these languages? What is the best method for achieving this goal? And how can I stand firm against the challenges and difficulties that inevitably come with raising a multilingual family? How can I support the development of the Greek language?

Dr Froso Argyri, Co-founder of UCL BiLingo https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bi-multilingualism and Child Bilingualism researcher at the UCL Institute of Education will address these questions. Her research focuses on the language and cognitive development of children who are exposed to more than one language from birth or later on, focusing mainly on English-Greek bilingual children. Froso is a mother to two children, who acquire Greek, Icelandic and English.
